oxy-clean. I removed 22 yr old blood stains from a homemade quilt with that stuff and I swear by it
I like dish soap, like the kind you use to wash dishes in the sink. It goes after food and grease stains really well, since it was meant to wash food and grease off of things.
When you need it to be more scrubby and cleansing, you can mix a little baking soda with it, but I've had baking soda appear to bleach denim before, so test before you go at a big stain with that.
Also works great for scrubbing counters, tubs and such.
