how can I get rid of mildew from fabric?

Answers:
Bleach will kill the mold spores that are causing the mildew. However, unless you are washing whites exclusively, you probably want something a little less harsh.
Try vinegar, as an alternative. It is not harmful, will not irritate the skin, will help "sweeten" your wash, and kills mold. Use one cup of vinegar in the wash. Also, if you wish to, you can add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle to soften fabric.
If you have option of drying the aforementioned fabric in the sun, that is an effective way to kill mold and mildew.

Use bleach if you want to bleach the color out too....
Yes, bleach is the first thought. However, if the fabric is not bleach safe, try wetting the stain with lemon juice (or white vinegar) and working table salt into it and then drying in the sun. This should work if the stain is not too extensive.
pre soak in a bucket of water with a cup of vinegar.leave for aslong as pos.
