I have a spanish housemate who is lazy and does not clean. Is this common for the spanish?

I think it is and am doing this to make a point to him!

Answers:
I'm of spanish decent and YES, it is very common! Spanish men and even some women are used to having their mother do everything for them. They get lazy and don't know how to clean up after themselves.

My suggestion is to call his mother, have her talk to him or if she won't listen, then bi tch her out for raising such a lazy a ss!

not it is not! that is a stereotype brought about by media and small minded people. A person does not represent the entire race!!
expand your horizons and open your mind-- you might like what you see.
I'm finding this odd that a spanish person would be lazy.. you sure you're not saying Mexican??

You know, Mexican is much different than a Spanish person!
It's about as common as white people being serial killers.
If anything spanish people in america do alot of the hard physically demanding work that others won't do for such low wages.
Unlike blueeyes I've been around many mexican or brown people ... most males will be lazy if allowed to be and will do little to help anyone other than a close relitive and even then I've seen sexism.
What difference does it make if it is common or not? It is stereotyping. What matters is this: Does this person do what they should do? If they do not one of three things needs to happen. 1-Talk it out and come to a new agreement as to who should do what. 2-Get used to doing it yourself. 3-Get a new housemate. Don't let someone cause you to spend your life upset and yelling. You don't get to choose what life throws at you but you do choose your attitude and response.
it happens most of the time, not only of the race but some people are really lazy or let say unorganized. If you can set up rules and regulations for maintaning the house clean, they might consider or ask the house owner about this problem.
Lazy people in every country and race! Change housemate.
no
They may have different customs. Also different people have different ideas of the meaning of clean and what they can live with. I have friends that can barely walk through a narrow path in their home, others who are just messy and yet others who do not clean often and are messy. Some people are normal about cleaning and others are freaks like my mom--immaculate. So it just depends on the person, how they were raised (roles they had), knowledge of how and when to clean and their personal taste of what they can live with.
It sounds like you need to have a nice discussion with them and set some household rules together and sign a little contract as to who will do what and how often. Have specific places for thing to be stored. Have a laundry night, cooking night and dish washing and sweeping/mopping schedule. Make sure you have plenty of baskets and racks for books, papers and magazines. Making a list of chores and expectations together will have a better outcome than telling them to clean--let them know what you mean in a calm, helping manner. Tell them why it is important to feel comfortable and clean in your environment for you to be peaceful and not fear guests stopping in and seeing the blasting zone. Then, you may see a need to purchase extra products like storage bins, shelves, clothes hampers and baskets to suit your household's needs and to stop the clutter. Good luck.
