how can i motivate myself to keep my apartment clean and neat?

Answers:
for your own health and well being a level of sanitary living is required for your health as well as those around you .to do less would show a lack of respect for others and show your contempt and lack of caring for your fellow man. so clean up your mess before it is to late.you will be judged on how you live not by me but by the creator of all things .If you wanna get to heaven you will keep yourself clean and free from sin .sloth

just do it. I love to keep my apartment clean because i like first coming home from work and knowing that everything is where it belongs. I can bring people home with me and not be embarrassed by my home. People can come by at anytime and i know that my home is clean. I hate going to someones house and it is a mess. i can't stand to see a dirty home. It shows a respect for yourself if you keep your house clean.

Just picture your mom comimg to your apartment and seen the big mess.
Think about why you want it clean. . . write a list of the reasons to clean (i.e. so my boy/girl friend is grossed out, so i can find clean underware, so I don't lose the remote every day) and under that list a "normal" list of things / rooms that need to be cleaned. That way, you are reminded of what you value about a clean space.
once you find silver fish has eaten holes in your clothes. once you see mice boob around almost everywhere, once you see mites in the garbage or on the floor, once you see you cough more due to dust has over come you, once you see the bathroom with many rounds of scum in your bath tub due to not cleaning it, once you see the dirty dishes all over the sink and kitchen area. when you cannot stand the smell, the odor any longer...then you will get the message and clean up.
It doesnt take motivation it takes effort and a desire to live in a clean and neat environment. If your ok living in a pig pen then of course your not going to clean, so you have to first want to keep a clean house for YOU. Try to get up every saturday morning and clean up. Thats once a week, see if that works. And having your favorite music blasting wont hurt either, it will help get you moving.
Tell yourself "Do you want to live like this forever? Then get off of your BUTT and clean the place, your Mom isn't there to help you anymore." This usually kicks me into overdrive. ;)
Release an army of tics and fleas, then try to go to sleep.
they say in time management articles to plan your day each morning and you will save twenty extra minutes for you time.
try it. put realistically though
-do some housework
-do some dishes
etc...

i give myself 15 minutes to clean as much as possible; it's like a race to see how much i can accomplish. and when i take things out, i have to make sure to put them away right away. i also find that having fewer things helps keep the clutter lighter. and it's always good to keep things organized. it might feel like it's taking forever, but it will cut off so much time when you are busy looking for things.
