Yes, hairspray should do the trick for true ball point pen ink. Spray the ink generously with hairspray and then while it is still wet, dab at it continually with a dry clean white cloth (like a flour sack dish towel). If gentle dabbing doen't work, then rub it gently and then vigourously if needed. Apply more hairspray until it eventually comes entirely out. It works!

Sqeeze a lemon on it and let it sit overnight.
Soak in, and then scrub with, one of the following: hair spray, milk, non-gel toothpaste or rubbing alcohol. Leave to sit overnight, then wash out.

alcohol is the best thing to get ink out of all kinds materials. hairspray is alcohol based which is why it works sometimes . however, with hairspray , you have to deal with the stickiness of the other ingredients.
