How do I remove this gunk from my hearth rug?

We have an hour chalice kind of article. It has this gooey, sticky wan fluid that goes from one subsection to the other just approaching the sand in an hour cup. I happened to accidentally drop it on our floor runner and it has settled on it. I tried removing it as much as I can beside paper towels. it is not drying up. after 3 days its still sticky. how do I gain rid of it?

Thank you

Answers:    Baking soda and water might backing. Do you have any microfiber cleaning cloths?
It is probably OIL,that's what they commonly use in these things,,,,soak up as much as you can by CONTINUOUSLY blotting the stain near paper towels,,,next get a hearth rug shampoo or spray that deals near oil stains,,,,you probably will not remove the stain ineradicably depends on the colour of the oil,,,
