Help, my house smells like an ashtray!?

Open all the windows. Use carpet fresh on the carpets and rugs. Use febreeze on all the soft furniture. Scrub down all the walls, floors, etc.
But then you'll have to make sure the smoker goes outside to smoke or your work will be nullified.
Clean everything- carpet ,and Furniture - then place a Bowl of Vinegar in the Room- out of the way- let it work for a few days-
why don't you go to home depot go get a new carpet but the same of carpet and take the old one out and there you go =)
I've heard if you boiler some water and vinegar on your stove it will draw the smell out, hope it helps.
Im a smoker but I know it stinks so I only smoke outside or if cold raining blah blah blah we set up a smoking room in the basement away from everyone and open the windows, To help you get rid of the smell your going to have to get yourself a carpet cleaning with attachments and clean all carpet and funiture then wipe off all your frames in the house and windows with glass cleaner than FREBREEZE! after all that hard work is done say no to smoking in the house
I've heard if you keep a vanilla candle burning it helps with the smell.

get new carpet. it will always smell. kick out the smoker. even if they smoke outside, their clothes and stuff will still smell, and leave a lingering scent around your house.
I like a product called Ozium smoke odor eliminator. It really leaves a fresh lemon scent and totally kills the smoke smell. Burning inscense helps, too. Big box discounters, auto parts stores and car washes carry Ozium.
Clean with Vinegar and water.Vinegar is a natural deodorizer,and if you shampoo your carpet try a little Mr.Clean Lemon Scent in it.
buy a candle warmer plate and put your favorite smelling candle in a jar on it and that really seems to work. i plugged mine in over a month ago and put a pint sized jar on it and the jar is almost as full as it was the day i put it on. i smoke and several people have been in my home and said if they did not know better they would think they was at a house of a non-smoker. it also helps with the pet odors. now for the carpet use carpet fresh
