My husband put dawn in the dishwasher, huge mess, but does this cause any REAL damage to the dishwasher?

No damage to dishwasher. If you have to use regular dishsoap in the dishwasher, only use a FEW SMALL drops of the soap and you wont have the bubbly flood again. Every one has done that once before and then you learn. Such a funny mistake to make.
No. It's just liquid detergent, after all. You might need to run a load with an empty machine to clear all of the detergent out of it, however.

my husband did the same thing to his grandmothers when he was a teenager. No damage will be done unless you tell him to do the disshes again..Oh and make him clean the mess...

i don't think it does any damage but it makes a real big mess i done it myself! i was in a hurry to get the dishes done and wasn't paying attention to what i was doing. i grabbed the wrong bottle and filled it up! my kitchen floor was squeaky clean and it smelled like dawn dish soap for days! needless to say i've never done it again i pay attention to what i'm doing now because i was the one who had to clean up the mess!
