What could cause a washer to not drain and spin during the rinse drain cycle?
Answers:
This happened to my Washer last year. I figured since it was about seven years old, I just needed a new one. However, being curious about how things work, I decided since I had the washer away from the wall, I was going to figure out how the washer actually works (and what it looks like under it). I found a small plastic piece that had broken (I do not remember what it was called), so I called SEARS repair (it is a Sears Washer). They told me the name of the part and they break over time (mainly from putting too heavy of a load in the washer ~ they break to protect other parts). I went to SEARS repair, purchased the part for $13, installed it myself, and rest is history - Washer is spinning, pumping the water out, etc and still works like a new one! NOW, I am not saying this is your problem, it was mine, but you could have the same problem. GOOD LUCK

Your drain is stopped up. Below the drum there is a pump that removes the water. I have seen many times when a pillow or something with fiber fill in it bust open and clog the pump its easy to fix with the propper tools.

the pump is pluged or is worn out and needs replaceing
Clogged pump, or the solenoid could be burned out---it tells the washer when to change cycles.
