can someone tell me the temperature settings for different clothes in the washer?

Answers:
If you want to save money on your energy bill, don't use hot or even warm water for the wash. I wash almost everything in cold water.

Some clothing manufacturers suggest washing dark clothes in warm water, to keep the colors from fading. Most people wash dark clothes in cold water for the same reason; it depends on the dyes used.

If you wash lights and whites seperate from dark clothes, they will stay whiter and brighter. Once in a while you can wash whites in hot water to brighten them again, but hot water shrinks things.

I only use hot water when clothes are very greasy or have stuff on them that needs hot water to get out.

I do use warm water on blankets, sometimes hot water as it supposedly kills mites that might be in the bedding.

It does get confusing, but there is nothing wrong with just using cold water on everything. If you have lots of money, and don't care how much your energy bill is, using warm or even hot water is ok.

A good quality laundry detergent will get your clothes clean, no matter the water temperature.

Wash whites in hot water, regular colored clothes in warm or cold water, and wash all darks in cold water. Hope this helps.

Whites usually use hot water, and colors use cold (so the colors don't run). Here in Phoenix, the only water temp in the middle of summer is warm to hot, so we just have to make due.
whites- warm
darks - cold
pastels- cold
white - hot
light to med colors - warm or cold
dark - cold

hope that helps!
always read the tags or labels when you first buy something
Some fabrics like wool will shrink and should always be washed in cold water no matter what color they are. If you can't read the label then go with the color code.

New Colored items should go thorough their first four washes alone so that if their color is not "set" it won't bleed into the rest of the laundry. (this is not so much of a problem as it was twenty years ago but it is something to be aware of)

some of the more expensive items need to be dry cleaned only

and still others that have shape concerns like baseball caps
and bras and need to be hand washed.
easy, the new detergents are good enough that you can wash about everything in cold water and not worry about it.
Whites in Hot
Dark Colors in Cold
Light Colors in Warm
