Should i wash my husband's grease rags in the washing machine or in the sink?

i don't want to get grease all over the washer...

Answers:
Don't put them in the washer... Grease and water don't mix, and anything that comes off will stick inside your washer. Same if you use the sink! Try a degreaser in a bucket. Follow the directions on the bottle/box. If you can't find something at a retail store, ask someone that works in an automotive store.. they may have something there you can use.

Best to wash them separately, in a sink. Chemicals such as gas can do some nasty things to your washer, in extreme cases you could cause an explosion.
I've washed in the machine before and regretted it. You're better off washing them in the sink - in hot water.
Technically, you should contact your local city office to find out how to deal with hazardous materials... because that "grease", or whatever other chemicals that are on those rags, could cause a hazardous build-up of gas or liquid somewhere throughout the grand plumbing infastructure that could ignite/explode over time. It's also not that great for the environment.

With grease in the washing machine, you run the risk of residue remaining in the machine and getting onto other articles of clothing. Worse, you run the risk of it igniting with static electricity or a spark from the machine itself or other articles nearby.

So, my advice is to ask about it and see what the city says... they might be able to offer a convenient and easy solution to your situation that none of us can think of.... good luck.
be careful were ever you wash them grease in the drains can be a very expensive thing to have removed .you see it dissolves in the hot water with the detergent but when it hits the drains it solidifies again and blocks them just like fat clogging an artery .so use drain clear at least once a month to avoid blockage
One word "Laundry Mat" Wait that is Two words!

Ok Try again

Laundry mat? It might be cheaper to buy him new rags?? Go to second hand store and get cheap clothes and cut them up
i would take them to a laundomat.. it would be easier then ruining your washer.
wash it in the washing machine with no other clothes and dish washer soap (dawn)
If it's heavily soiled and smells of gasoline then just throw it away as it's just rags anyway.
For less soiled rags use Goop Hand cleaner found in the automotive store. Rub it into the greasy/oily spots and then hand wash the rag in a bucket of warm soapy water. Hang dry.

You don't want to get oil residue and that gasoline smell onto your other clothes so don't use the washer or dryer. They're just rags!! Have your husband install a paper hand towel bar in the garage along with the Goop hand cleaner.
*** THIS WORKS***

My husband uniform is COVERED in grease b/c he works on airplanes. You CAN wash them in your machine. Pour a coke or 2 in the machine with the rags before filling it up with water. It eats away the grease. Then wash again with soap. After you take them out of the washer, be sure to run the machine once more empty (with soap) to make sure it is cleaned out and ready for clothes. If you don't do a empty cycle, you could ruin your clothes.
My clothes are covered in grease at the end of the day. I wash work clothes in one load. And then I do my whites w/ bleach after that. I've never had a problem. Then any other clothes
