I am hiring a maid for the first time and wonder if I should leave a tip?How much? When?Leave $ beforehand???
Answers:
I would say if she is the owner then no but if she is a maid from a service agency then yes, but not the first time, wait to see that she does a good job, then have a envelope with her name on it and a thank you note, I wouldn't tip more then ten percent of what you paid the agency.

I dont think so. Maybe for Xmas, Mothers Day you may give her a bonus, but otherwise......no.

As others have said if the person is on her own and not sent by a cleaning agency the price agreed on is the price. If the person is working for a cleaning agency a tip may be appropriate to supplement what the agency is paying as is with a waitress.
For extra service beyond the norm or exceptional work a tip should be given to show your appreciation.
The tip should not be given if the work is not up to the standards originally agreed upon therefore the tip would be given the next time service is rendered rather than before hand with a note of thanks for a job well done. The tip should also be given as an incentive for the person to strive to continue exemplary service
How much of a tip would be determined by you on how much you think should be given based on how much the services rendered is appreciated by you.
