What is saddle soap made of?
Answers: Old saddles, as you would expect.

beeswax . . . pure flake lye ... castile soap shavings . . . water... and pure gum turpentine.

Saddle soap is an important leather cleaner. Especially for saddles, saddle shoes and other gluey leather. Please read the cautions back using.
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups water
1/4 cup neat's-foot grease
3/4 cup soap flakes (not detergent)
1/2 cup beeswax or paraffin
Directions:
In a pan bring river to a boil and than lower the heat to a simmer. Slowly stir surrounded by soap flakes until the soap is disolve.
Then place neat's-foot oil and paraffin (or beeswax) within a double bowler, heat until melt. Once melted slowly add on to the simmering soap. Stir until the soap becomes sticky. Pour into storage containers and let cool back storing.
Using Saddle Soap:
Apply to leather with a wetness sponge or cloth and then buff next to a dry cloth.
