How do I get sticky marks off of a woodblock/laminate floor without ruinining the finish?

We are in rented accomodation, and the floor has been laid in strips, but seems to consist of lots of small pieces of wood about 1 inch wide. Some stick residue has come off of one of our chairs, and I'm not too sure what to use to get it off without ruining the floor. We are in Switzerland, so if you know the product name in French it would help:-)

Answers:
Apply a few drops of baby oil (mineral oil) to the residue and rub until the sticky stuff balls up. Then clean with soap and water.

Other answers:
Try dampening the area with soapy water first, then scraping it off gently with a paint scraper. Be careful not to damage the finish, and don't leave the water on too long or the floor may warp.

Good luck!!

Best bet it to try some sticky stuff remover from Cleaneze.
Try making a paste of baking soda and water. That removes sticky residue from just about anything and is very mild and non abrasive.
Nail Varnish Remover? Worth a try.
Whatever you use, do not use white spirits it will ruin the finish, use warm soapy water and alot of elbow grease. Soft rags too
Acetone [ CH3COCH3 ] otherwise known as nail polish remover will work. It will evaporate after it releases the sticky stuff.

Try a bit on an area that is not noticeable to see if it damages the surface. We use it on wood furniture to remove sales tag residue and it has never caused damage that I know of.

Good Luck!
I just can't imagine what kind of sticky residue would transfer from a chair to the floor.

The most damaging cleaner that you could use is anything that would "soften" the laminate.

This product has a clear vinyl surface.

My best suggestion is to visit a flooring company. There is a solvent which is made to remove adhesives that are used in the process of installation.

This may remove the sticky residue, but whether it does or not, the solvent will not harm the laminate.

Be wary of some suggestions here.
You can try leaving paper towels soaked with vinegar on the marks for 5-10 mins. Any type of vinegar will work. It will probably just take consistant rubbing with a towel, and picking them with your nails.

Good luck !
Try Eucalyptus oil if you can get it.
Spray the area with WD-40 obtainable worldwide, rub area with a rag its sure to remove the sticky residue. I have used it to remove sticky residues from woodwork.
