How do you clean a dishwasher so that food does not end up on your dishes?

I just moved and i washed my brand new dishes before i was going to put them in the counter. How do I get the last persons meals out of my dishwasher?

Answers:
take it apart! sort of ! remove the drawers and clean it wipe down everything the bottom!!
Then do a dry run! <-- no dishes in them just run it no soap either!
and check again!
or you could try
getting a bowl.. sitting it up in the washer.. to let it grab the food then after it ran dump the bowl in your garbage disposal!

Other answers:
Lots of bleach rubber gloves and a bunch of paper towels. good luck.

I use this method to clean mine every couple of months. I read it in one of the Queen of Clean books.

Set a bowl on the bottom rack of your dishwasher with 1 cup of clorox in it. Run it through the 1st cycle. Then put one cup of vinegar in the bowl, and let it run its course. Works like a charm.

Every once in a while, I'll also put 1 cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle while I'm washing dishes.
