How do I get my husband's T-shirts white?
Answers:
just be careful that the tee's you are soaking in bleach (what a lot of people have recommended) can take it. I used to do this for my husbands undershirts and they fell apart so much faster that it wasn't worth it. It could be your water if you don't have a water softener. If so, there is not much you can do although I've been told that there is a product called rust out that might help when added to the wash. I haven't tried it yet so I don't know for sure. Good luck!

Try OxyClean
Try OxyClean
In a pack of six at WalMart, for less than $10.
just get some new shirt cheepy
First make sure that you're using Clorox bleach and a good detergent like Tide. Or try Biz.
with starch
soak it in lemon juice and let it dry in the sun then regular wash it-should work
depending on why they are dingy. i make sure there is nothing but white clothes in the washer. then soak in a bleach water for 30 minutes. wash with detergent. if you can, hang in the sun.
If a white dye doesn't work in the washer, they will just stay dingy. In the future only wash whites with whites. I have white tees Ive had for years and they remain white. Wore white uniforms for years and learned if anything colored got in the machine my uniform was ruined.
try soaking(for at least 30 min.) in detergent, borax, oxyclean and all chlorine bleach in hottest water allowable for shirts. I would even add 1/2 cup of baking soda, although I'm not sure if it is the same as the borax. Try this. I do it all the time.
If you try this, post how it works for you.
Soak them in bleach and detergent for a half day, then wash them. If you notice that they have'nt achieved that whiteness that you desire, repeat the process, then rewash them with just detergent. If that does'nt work throw them out!
I used to work in a restaurant and had to wear these tacky white blouses that would get all dingy.
To get them white again, I would soack them in a bucket of water with bleach and lestoil overnight and then wash them in the washer with bleach, detergent, and a small amount of lestoil. They would come out dazzling white and stay that way for a while. You probably will have to run the rinse cycle an extra time with fabric softener so they smell nice.
The new clorox bleach that is thick and safer to handle, Total Care, I think it's called, is great. ( Shows how much product attention I pay, that I use something but aren't sure of the product name! lol ) Use it in your wash, then hang your whites out on a sunny, hot day. Leave them outside as long as the sun hits them... and you should have nice, bright whites again! :)
bleach
Clorox in hot water should be able to do the trick. White dye works well. But the main source maybe your water. If you got hard water then your wash, whatever color, will appear dull. Investing in a water softener ends up saving you money in the long run.
Get new ones, Then always wash whites seperate, you may need a better laundry soap like the kind they sell at Costco in the big bucket called " kirkland" laundry soap, i use it for " work clothes" and then bleach a little every other load.
Also have you checked to see that your washer is working properly? i found my washer wasnt really working and my clothes were just being sloshed around in dirty water.
try Iron Out
i use a product called yellow out works great but don't know where to buy it as my husband does all the shopping.. i would guess that he got it a menards or home depot
I have this problem also, my boyfriend works on an Oil rig and while he is working men wash the cloths there and wash everything together with all that drilling oil on all the cloths.
As soon as he get home I fill the washing machine up enough that it going to cover the white cloths that I`m going to put in. I add lots of Oxiclean and agitate the washing machine with the cloths in it and the turn washer off and let cloths soak for 5 hrs or so, then I finish washing them.
Oxyclean work great on white and it you have bad spots on the sprinkle it on the stains and let set about an hour then wash.
I never use regular bleach because this breaks down the fabric and will yellow some whites
Good Luck
