Why do people hog the washers and dryers?

I live in an apartment building where we have to share a laundry room. On occassion, someone will forget that they washed or dryed their clothes; the clothes will remain in the machines for several hours after they are done.

Do people forget that they used the machines or are they just rude to assume that nobody else needs to use the washers and dryers?

Question 1: Are people rude or forgetful?

Question 2: Is it acceptable to remove somebody elses clothes from the machines and place them on the table?

Answers:
I have the same problems. Also we have two washers and two dryers on our floor (each floor has a laundry room) and people will fill up both of them with their items especially on the weekends knowing that there are a ton of other people wanting to do their laundry too. It would be so much more polite to just do one load at a time. Yes its an extra hour of your time however its much nicer and works out better for others who also have needs!
People really are that inconsiderate. They know in a building like this that others are waiting for the machines because they waited too...but they do not care.
Its not about forgetting. When you live in an apartment you very rarely forget that your clothes are in the machines. You do not want them stolen.
I do not usually feel like its acceptable to remove other peoples clothes from the machines. I do not like the thought of others touching my clothes so I do not do it to them most of the time. However I have had my clothes removed and I ALWAYS get my clothes out of the machines within a couple minutes of them being done (I set the timer)
If it is an excessive time period I do remove their clothes yes. Why should I have to put off my plans for others???

Other answers:
1. forgetful
2. that's fine
1. forgetful
2. that's fine
Yes to both questions.
People are forgetful, and inconsiderate.

I simply take the clothing out of the machine after an hour or two. I give them a chance, but then out it comes!

I put it back in when I am done.
Yes to both questions, plus hogs are usually bores
1. Forgetful
2. Go ahead, but be prepared to defend yourself if you get caught touching someone else's laundry. Most people are pretty easy about it, but some get NUTS. And don't automatically put wet things in the dryer, they might not went those things dried. If they get smelly for being wet so long, not your problem, they shouldn't have forgotten about it.
1. I think people just forget. I set my egg timer after I use the washer or dryer in my apartment...otherwise I would probably forget.

2. Depends on how long they've been in the machine. I was a little late getting my clothes out of the washer one time. It was 5, maybe 10 minutes at the most. I get there and there's some guy removing my clothes from the washer. I rewashed them, since I didn't know how clean his hands were. That ticked me off quite a bit.
people are rude most of the time they do not think about other people and as for removing other people clothes from the machines that just from people should ask first before touching othar poeples belongings in a way its almost as bad as stealing
mostly forgetful, they have a life! and just be very careful if you do touch their clothes! just put them in a safe spot or if you know them go tell them!
I have to assume most are forgetful. I've forgoten once or twice. Not for long, but obviously long enough for someone else to need the machine. You can't tell if the clothes have been there for ten minutes or two hours. Just move them to a clean spot in the room and start your wash.

I had the same problem. I printed small signs on my computer. I placed them on the laundry room wall and beside the door as they exit.
Thank you for removing laundry promptly. Thank you for cleaning the lint filter, it really does help your clothes dry faster. It's really great to have wonderful people like you helping each other. Have a Great Day!
Everyone seems to be doing much better, and I noticed they smile more too.
Yes & yes. Some people just don't care about others' needs, some are forgetful, most are a combination. Feel free to move the laundry to a clean dry space. You might want to bring this up to management so an official policy can be made, if one is not already in place. Ask!
