it will never go away. you can cover the odor up but it will always return..sorry that is the luck i had
There is a product called "Febreze" that kills odors well. You spray it on the rug and by the time it dries you can't smell the stain anymore. It is in the market in the airfreshener and detergent area.
put a fresh cut cedar branch under the pee spot...gone in a week
I just saw an infomercial on a product made especially for your problem. Zero Odor is the name, making stains and odors history is its game.
Rent a carpet shampooer and clean your carpets yourself..its not that hard. You can buy special carpet shampoo that removes pet urine.
Try this one, it's all in your home, it was used back when dogs would get skunked.
15oz of hydrogen peroxide 3%
2 teaspoons of baking soda
2drops of liquid hand soap
mix in plastic container, with plastic spoon, do not store in closed container, make and use fresh, I had a 2 yr old spot and could not not get rid of it, after many dollars on store bought stuff, a friend told me her grandmother used this and to try it. Well I did, and wow, gone the stain and smell, took a smell test before and 1 hour after what a difference, I did paint my sub floor with a shelac base primer by Zinsser Good Luck...

Home Remedies for Urine Odor
Do They Work?
Homemade "recipes" for the removal of urine odor abound on the internet. You can spend hours looking for them. "How to" sites and forums suggest water and vinegar, baking soda, oxy cleaners, mouthwash, toothpaste, raw potatoe, window cleaner, club soda, rubbing alcohol, quaternary disenfectants, citrus scents, bleach, hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/dish soap recipes. The list goes on and on.
Here are just a few -
Powders> 80% of the urine is in the pad and sub floor, totally out of reach of absorbant powder.
Quaternary disenfectants> Kills the bacteria; leaves the urine. Odor always returns.

Vinegar> NEVER start with vinegar. Vinegar sets stains. Totally innefective for odor.

Oxy products> OK for some stains (feces and vomit.) Zero benefit for odor.

Ammonia solution> Done properly, fine for urine stain; not odor. Followed by vinegar solution to neutralize.

Citrus scents> Obviously simple short term relief.

Shampoo/Wet Vac> Urine is under the carpet. Wetting the carpet and pad spreads it out; odor worsens.

Hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/dish soap "recipes" > Well known home remedy commonly used for skunk odors. A few enterprising individuals saw an opportunity to offer this "unique" recipe to folks on the internet for a small fee ranging from $2.99 to $29.95. Some are offered by simple e-mail. Oxidizers kill the bacteria, but leave the urine. When the residual of the oxidizer wears off, new bacteria arrive, and the odor returns. Also, would you really feel comfortable taking advice from a non-professional, and pouring an oxidizer on your expensive carpet or furniture? At least some of these individuals caution you to test for color fastness in an inconspicous area for 24 hours. You might wonder why.

The simple fact of the matter is these home recipes are inefectual, and can also make matters worse. You need a true professional kit to get safe, permanent results. The most trusted and respected odor removal kit is pictured below. It is the 123 Odor Free Kit, and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, you may be able to make it so you can't smell it anymore, but a cat will still be able too and will "wee" on it again.

Urine gone works pretty good, as does a thorough cleaning and febreez.

The only way to permanently rid an area of the smell is to get rid of the carpet/pad. Sorry.
zero odor
I have cats and this is what I use:

Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Clean-up
* Doesn't cover up odor, it neutralizes it

Powerful natural enzymes penetrate and quickly remove stains and odor from your pet's environment, or your pet. Clean Environment – For stains, first blot out, then saturate with Stain & Odor Remover to neutralize acids in urine, feces, vomit, and other organic stains enzymatically. Your choice of Trigger Spray or pour-on solution, which can also be used as refill. Leaves no trace of stain on carpet or tile, and no odor "scent post" for your pet to return to. Puppy/Dog Kit contains three popular products in one convenient kit for puppy and dog stain, odor, and behavior problems. Includes 8 oz. Stain & Odor Remover, 3 oz. Pet Mess Easy Clean Up Granules, and 8 oz. Best Behavior to stop unwanted chewing and biting.

For removal of the toughest stains and odors, apply NEW Orange-Oxy Power liberally, allow to work for one hour, then wipe away stain with a cloth. For tough stains, use stiff brush. May also be used as a laundry pre-wash.
Try this I dont have cats but I use this for any bad smellin vessels.I dunno if it might be useful....coffee powder!
Try as little or as much as you see fit.It really knocks off bad smell
There is a product called "Pet Odor Eliminator" or POE for short, works great as it is an enzyme based cleaner, the enzymes digest the organic compounds, which cause the funk.

This stuff is ONLY for organic stains, feces, urine, food, vomit, etc. will NOT work on grease, plain old dirt, makeup, etc.
It requires an enzyme cleaner and the best I found was "SpotShot". Spray and blot, spray and blot. I also used "Awesome", available at most 99 cent stores. Fantastic cleaner.
