Should I buy a manual sweeper (not a broom), or a cordless sweeper? Why or Why not for each?

I've being reading reviews on amazon and other places and it seems like the problem with the cordless sweepers are that they don't hold a battery life. Also, with both kinds of sweepers people often say that they have to keep running over things to pick it up. I mostly want to use this thing for picking up stuff that falls from the dinner table or in the family room that my 3 yr old daughter drops.
PERHAPS I SHOULD JUST DO THE MONTESSORI THING AND LET HER PRACTICE USING HER LITTLE DUST PAN AND SWEEPER :) AND SAVE SOME MONEY BECAUSE BOTH SWEEPERS (THE GOOD ONES) ARE PRETTY DARN EXPENSIVE)!

I wouldn't get either! Sounds like it would be good practice for her to get down there with her sweeper and learn how to pick up little messes.

In my experience, the cordless sweeper work ok. Most of them don't hold very much, and between finding a place to store it (against a wall with an outlet, you need about 1 foot by 4 1/2 feet of wall space), and having to empty it and clean it (which is difficult because you can't get any of the electronics wet) after each use, it doesn't seem to be any better or more convinient than my trusty broom!!

And I would never get another manual sweeper, unless you like mashing things into the floor so that you have to get down on your hands and knees with a warm rag to get the crud off the floor!

Good luck choosing!

and one final plug - I would highly recommend the Dyson vacuum cleaner to anyone! It works on carpets and hard floors, has wonderfully accesible tools, and a hose that really works! It stretches an amazing 17 feet! It get's nooks and cranies, and never looses suction! Buy a dyson and all is well!! Plus they come in really cool colors!

you may need to invest in both. there are some options out there that work just as well and are not as expensive. some options are shark cordless sweeper, kenmore vacuums, etc. but you can look on kenmore.com or just go to your local walmart, kmart, target, etc. to find what product best fits your needs.
