How do you get rust off of appliances?

I have quite a few appliances that are rusted and don't know how to get it off. Any advice?

Answers:
Make a paste of salt and lemon juice. Put on the area and let sit a bit and then wipe off. Depending on how set in the rust is, you may have to use a scrubbing pad for non stick pans(not brillo!).

It would help to know which appliances and what material the rust was on. You could try lemon juice - to a test in an inconspicuous place first. There are also commercial rust removers at the supermarket. I could tell you some Australian products if you live here.
