I went with the Hoover Windtunnel because the Dyson was just too bulky and hard for me to handle. I had a Siberian Husky and now 2 Eskies which shed enough to make it look like it snowed in a room. I like the Windtunnel because it is bagless, is self-propelled and doesn't clog. It also has the spinning brush attachment to get the hair off of upholstery. My secret, a $19 extended warranty for 4 years at Best Buy. The spinning brush sometimes gets long dog hairs caught up in it and won't spin. No problem, I take the whole vacuum back, box and all and they give me a new one. I think I paid $199 originally for it.

do be honest with you there is no such thing as an affordable vacuum to use on pet hair, i have dogs and the hair was horrible no matter what vacuum i tried, so after i got sick of buying vacuums that don't work i bought a DYSON ANIMAL, i spent 500 dollars on and don't regret it for a second, its the best purchase i made. Try to get someonet to buy you one for your birthday or something, try anything to get the Dyson
The Dyson isn't so cool on pet hairs actually. I have one and it doesn't pick my Lab's hairs up at all well. Mind you she does loose her own body weight in hair every day. Unfortunately I am still looking for a good vacuum as well, so I'll be watching this space with interest.
my dyson for pet hair is the best invention ever. If you can't afford it, a hoover is good, but all vacuums will clog with pet hair. You just have to keep on top of the vacumming.
