How do you get a carpet clean?

I also, have a hoover deluxe, and it really cleans good. You can see how dirty your carpets really are, when you empty the holding tank. My water is usually almost black!! Make sure that before you shampoo, vacuum your carpets, really good. You should go over the carpet, in a back and forth method, at least 4 times, to make sure they are clean. That is a major problem, some people do not do, and should, then your carpets will come out much cleaner, after shampooing. Make sure that the water that you use, is hot, it will help the soap, clean much better. Before starting, use a spray spotter, and soak the bad spots good. Do that a half hour, before shampooing, to give it time to dissolve the grease etc, thats on the carpet. I use the bissel cleaner, with one ounce of pinesol added to the cleaner, that really helps to get the carpet clean. When shampooing, go over the carpet, in a back and forth motion, at least two times, depending how dirty they are. The more, the better. After you are finished with that step, just keep going over the carpet, without any soap coming out, that will help the carpet dry faster. Now, you have new carpets again. If you have heavily traveled area's, you should shampoo at least once a month, and vacuum every other day, or more..Good Luck!!

I have a Hoover too! I like the machine but found their cleaner lacking. I tried Bissel cleaning solution and it cleans better for me. I also like their Oxy 2 cleaning solution for treating bad spots. I may have spelled that wrong but I believe its active ingredient is peroxide. It comes in a gray bottle. It does say to test a small area. I have very hard water here but have a water softener, so the water I clean with is softened. I know that can make a difference too.
