How do you get an oil based stain out of clothing?

I have these spots that appear on my clothing after I have washed them. I have no idea where they come from but they look like they are an oil stain. I have tried hot water, expensive soaps, bleach, and stain removers. Any suggestions?

I've had the same thing happen. Soooo frustrating!! I love fabric softener, but I have to agree with the others that it is probably your culprit. I just looked it up for you in my Queen of Clean book by Linda Cobb, and I will quote what she says:

"Fabric Softener Spots: For the greasy spots that sometimes appear on clothes after drying with dryer fabric softener sheets, dampen the spot and rub with pure bar soap and relaunder.

For spots from liquid fabric softener, rub with undiluted liquid dish soap and relaunder."

I really recommend Linda Cobb's books. She has helped me get out many stains from my clothes. Oh, and by the way, the pointers above worked for me.

Good luck!

Have you tried Lestoil ? My Mom swears by it. You may also want to try running a rinse cycle in your washer before you do a load.

Its probably liquid fabric softener that doing this.
try a dishsoap that cuts grease like Dawn.
baby powder usually works on oil stains if they're somewhat recent. If not, then I would suggest the dry cleaners
Hair spray, directly on the stain, works well. Saturate it. The cheaper the hairspray the better.

Also try hand soap, then dish soap if that doesn't work. I hate those stains. GRR

Use Dawn dishwashing soap and hot water and a toothbrush. My husband is a truck driver and comes home with BLACK grease stains all over his clothes, big ones! I use Dawn dishwashing soap and it takes out the grease stains with some scrubbing with a toothbrush. When the stains a very very faint, I put his clothes, (unrinsed) in the washer and put some more Dawn in the machine along with Detergent and Shout. Works great!
Try spraying it with Simple Green. It usually takes out all grease.
You say the stains are not there BEFORE you wash clothes but appear after? It sounds like it is fabric softener sheets to me. If you use fabric softener sheets in the dryer, they will do this. I know, it's happened to me. I switched to liquid fabric softener. You might try this. If you are already doing this and still have stains, go easy on it. You may be using too much. You might also try diluting it with water before you add it to your wash.

Good luck!
