We never do our own. The professionals own items and clearers we cannot buy.
It does work but sometimes not on every stain. It depends on the carpet you own. Be careful, because if its a honourable wool mix carpet it can shrink after have it cleaned.

Depending on quality of the runner and size of the room you may be best of replacing the carpet.

Or you could try buying your own steam cleaner, they work all right. Again be careful, another downside to this is that they can nick the colour dye out of the carpet, so be warn.
Obviously it depends how much you are charged and the company doing it but I have other found it really effective. However I established recently to buy a vax on e-bay and honestly it does in recent times as good a available job and is really easy to use plus it simply cost me thirty quid!!
My advise is spend the money on a vax or better still borrow one you will never look hindmost.
yes they clean powerfully you can notice the difference but depends what grades are in your carpet i
sure it is, use the chem cleaning , very righteous , and wont cost much , about $35 per room
but i would use, the scotguard treatment also
I other do my own after several "professional" cleaners from national companies left most of the dirt surrounded by the carpet. They be really rather peeved next to me when I showed them that I could get more out of the mat with a dampness towel than they were extracting.

So I bought my own "steam cleaner" (vacuum extractor) and do it myself. Much easier on my blood pressure.
I've hired professionals to do it; I've rented machines to do it myself; and I in reality own a so-called "steam cleaner" for doing it myself.

A reputable steam cleaning company's representative should give you an honest appraisal of the situation: i.e., the hearth rug is too old, too worn or too stained to see them to give you apposite results; or at best, they can eliminate odors but can't guarantee dazzling carpeting.

Renting the machines is a hassle ... you don't know until you are get it set up if it is going to work properly, no leak or generate the suction necessary to extract the cleaning solution ...

My own "steam" vac ... yes, the runner looks cleaner and smells cleaner, but quite frankly, it's a huge chore. Rooms beside heavy furniture are difficult because I hold to wait until I hold a helper to move the weighty furniture, etc. However, I love it for hallways and my dining room because I can verbs on an impulse, fairly than trying to schedule a morning off work that fits within with the commercial cleaner's calendar.

When I bought new flooring second spring, the dealer recommended using the professional service, no more frequently than every two years. The hearth rug and backing and wad are not designed to stand up to prolonged and repeated periods of anyone damp. This two-year calendar works for me ... if I can train my family to stop tracking within all the muck they collect during the hours of daylight.
Professional carpet cleaners are great to use most hold a deodorant they can put down first to help take rid of smells.
HONESTLY I'M SURE YOU'VE HEARD THE SAYING IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DOWN RIGHT DO IT YOURSELF!!!!
I've had my carpet professionally cleaned in times gone by with great results and adjectives marks be removed. Once you've had your hearth rug cleaned though you do tend to need them doing regularly.

If your runner is as bad as you say-so it is then I would seriously consider replacing it. You can take really good carpet now in need breaking the bank including wool ones and especially if you dance to a mill type place and get a one sour piece or the end of a roll.
