How many times do you have to wash new towels before they don't shed fluff anymore? New towels drive me crazy.
Answers:
I've had very expensive towels (wedding present) that shed.
I had to wash them about a half dozen times before they stopped shedding. But every time I washed them, they got a little bit better.

I know what you are talking about and I hate it too. I also think that brand new towels don't soak up the water on your skin. I wish I had an answer for you but I don't. I feel your pain.

It sounds like you've been buying very cheap towels. Go nuts and spend more next time, you'll find that even the first time they won't shed fluff and they won't wear thin in no time (due to not shedding fluff)
Try to buy towels that do not have open fabric that is all fuzzy, but rather the kind that is sewn with the ends looped under. This style tends to be at least $15 a towel, and are often called "bath sheets". When I say the ends looped under, that means not just the edges, but rather the entire towel, the part you dry off with. Most towels have a fuzzy like texture, and it's this fuzzy texture that keeps shedding. The more expensive towels have loops that are woven back and forth so the towels don't shed so much. (kind of like a carpet. some carpets have ends that are all cut, others (like berber carpet) have loops instead.
ALWAYS wash towels with other towels so you don't get fuzz on your clothes. IF you dry towels in a clothes dryer, the dryer will help remove a lot of the fuzz.
It could also be that you have a slight allergy to the fabric so be sure to buy 100 % cotton. It could also be that when you wash your towels, they pick up fuzz from other fabrics, and it's the "other" fuzz that is irritating.
I personally am very sensitive to the fuzz from new fabric. I sew a lot and absolutely go nuts from fuzz in my nose if I don't prewash fabrics (all fabrics) before sewing. Many fabrics have a chemical added to make them stay wrinkle free so they look better in the store.
Hope some of these ideas help.
Throw them in the dryer, that takes out more fluff than the washing machine.
add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse draw and this should help your problem.
