What type of smell can chase away bed bugs?
Answers:
I had these awful mites that would bite the heck out of me but you could not see them. Best thing, as it turned out, was to do the following (and I'll cover the "smell" part of the question also):
a) vaccuum
b) wash sheets in hot water, or better yet, in 20 Mule Team Borax (but keep this away from pets and children as it is very toxic, like bleach)
c) dust everything and throw old things away. throw, throw, throw
d) get vinyl/platic mold resistant covers to put under the sheets (smelly; bugs don't like it)
Other answers:
PESTICIDE. Think of the diseases. You must rid your home and wash bedding in hot water. Please act quickly or you will really have a problem.

No smell will rid your linens, pillows, or bedding, of the feces and waste products of the bugs!
Needs cleaning, seriously, with strong cleansers, even steam!
new pillows and change bag in vacum clean regularly; lysol bed.
wash your bedding
no smell will chase them away. I am in the hospitality industry and they are difficult pests to get rid of. if you have bed bugs you need to have a professional come and treat. they hide in the seams of your mattress & boxspring, furniture, in cracks & crevices, behind baseboards, mouldings, switchplates, wall hangings, anywhere and everywhere. have your mattress steam cleaned, if you've vacuumed they are in your vacuum. Good Luck.

The Bed bug is a Blood-Sucking Parasite that lives Totally on Human and Animal blood only, much like that of Lice, the Adult Flea, or Adult Mosquitoes.
These insects are known by Numerous names: Bat Bug, Cooties, Wall louse, Chinches, Blood Bug, House bug, Flat backs, Brewers bug, Mahogany Flat, Red Coat, Gray Backs and Crimson Ramblers, are just to name a few.
There are a number of sub-species such as the batbug that are normally found on Many other host Birds and Animals other than Humans, but when they find human Hosts, then Normally that’s where they’ll remain. Unfortunately, Humans are normally the most preferred Host.
Unlike the cockroach, which thrives on unkempt environments, the bedbug is Totally an Equal-Opportunity Pest, You can live in an Immaculate Mansion, or $25 a week Flop House, They don’t care, if You live there, They’re Always Willing to Join You..
The level of cleanliness has little to nothing to do with Bed Bug Infestations. Pristine homes, hotels, and apartments All have plenty of hiding places, and an abundance of warm-blooded Human hosts.
Thus, They ARE ALL as vulnerable to infestation, just as are any of the places of Squalor and Fifth.
Do You Have Bed Bugs?
Bed bug infestations are characteristically marked by dark spotting and staining on Sheets, pillows, pillowcases and mattresses. Of which this is the dried excrement of the bugs. Also present will be eggs, eggshells, molted and shed skins of maturing nymphs, and the bugs themselves.
Heavy infestations are sometimes accompanied by a "buggy" or sweetish Raspberry odor, although such smells are not always apparent.
Bed bugs do not make or have nests like other Bugs (bees, wasps, ants), but they do often tend to congregate in groups that are natural and habitual hiding places generally within 25 feet or less of their Human Blood Host. The smallest and youngest often being the ones that often stay the closest to the Host normally for the first 2 or 3 feedings as they grow. These can be in the Hundreds.
A number of people and individuals will react to the bite of the Bed Bug, while many others are often unaware of its feeding activity, even after being bitten repeatedly.
Many People who are sensitive, may find the bite area to become inflamed and itch severely frequently, with a related pain in the actual bite area itself. This reaction can be instant from the moment of being bitten, to that of a delayed reaction as late as the next day.
If you were born in the last 50 years you probably haven’t had to much experience with them, however many of us 50 or older have many memories of the itching pain and misery they caused over and over countless times in our lives of past. Then in the late 1940’s through the mid 1950’s came the advent of D.D.T. sprays and powders that had both the initial Direct and the Secondary Residual killing power to put an end to Any and All Bed Bugs Infestations of that time, unfortuatly DDT Contaminated our environment to the point it was Banned by the Federal Government.
