How do you increase the absorbency of new towels?
Answers:
Wash and dry them over and over. I have noticed some type of towels aren't very absorbent. You might have to toss them and buy a different type.
That pima cotton stinks for absorbency.

When you wash them it's better not to use fabric softener as it actually causes the fibres to repell water rather than absorb it.
Wash them but do not use dryer sheets when you dry them. If you are able to hang them outside to dry, even better. But using Static Dryer sheets and sometimes even fabric softener can make towels less absorbent.
When you wash your towels (new or old) do not use fabric conditioner as this makes gives towels that hard cardboard feeling.
New towels need to be washed on as higher temperature as possible and tumble dried for best results.
Hope this helps a little.
wash new ones once... old ones don't absorb so much
I agree with some of the others.wash them a couple of times before you even use them the first time.
Dont use alot of liquid softener
You may need to dry them thoroughly. Try to expose them to the sun directly for a long time. It may help.
Wash them, then, if you can, hang them outside to dry. Otherwise, dry them in the dryer, but don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets.
I'll assume that no matter what,,, the law of physics applies in some way, here.
No matter that the towel may be inexpensive, thick and fluffy, sized in some way prior to shelving for sale, etc. etc.
The towel has a certain capacity for absorbtion. Once reached the towel will simply not hold any more liquid/water.
The fiber or quality will drive the amount of absorbtion.

Never never never use fabric softener of any kind on them. It coats the fibers and they will repel water.
Just wash them the regular way, with a little less detergent than you think you need, as detergent can mat them down. Rinse well (twice if needed) and dry them in a dryer that's not over filled. The tumbling will let the fibers fluff.
If you have soft water (or a water softener) you will have that "slippery" feel when you wash. I have found that this makes it hard to get dry after a shower. What I do is to wipe off with a damp washcloth before getting out of the shower. This takes off the first layer of water. Then the towel does a better job of getting me all the way dry.
I am a towel manufacturer.
All new towels are made with fabric softener. That is so they feel nice and soft in the store. Fabric softener is a natural water repellent. Hence you MUST wash new towels, and NEVER add softener when laundering towels.
Sorry... but the stores make us add softener. Customers wont buy a towel that isnt soft.
