I need too get at the filter to fully clean it. I dont know how to lift the filter up because there are these little plastic latches that keep it in place. There is a bunch of food stuck in there and the only way for me to fully clean it is to pop that sucker off and clean. Any ideas on how I can do this?

Interesting, I just pulled out the manual for my Whirlpool Gold dishwasher to find the instructions to clean the filter. Mine is looking a little gross, too. They tell you how to clean the outside and the inside, but NOT the filter. However, they do give a number for the Whirlpool Customer Interaction Center which says can provide assistance and answer questions 1-800-253-1301. Guess they are going to get two calls in the same day asking the same question!
