What's the best way to clean an electic waffle maker if the grills can't be removed?

Answers:
I have an older waffle maker and a sandwich maker that I put in the sink (unplugged of course and I don't submerge it) and clean with a sponge and dish soap and rinse well spraying water directly on it. Then let it air dry for at least 24 hours before using. I have done this for years and never had a problem.

Other answers:
Unplug the appliance, then clean it with warm water and a kitchen cloth. If there are big pieces stuck on, you can pry them off carefully with the edge of a knife.

I keep a spray bottle full of soapy water for several reasons, and I spray my grill with it, then use paper towels to wipe it clean.
use a plastic wedge tool(sell at bed bath and beyond for a 1-3 dollars it won't scratch) to get inbetween the grills, tip over waffle maker into trash, then use a rag with hot soapy water to clean , another rag to rinse and paper towel to dry.
