Stale smelling house?

We've lived in this house for 2 months presently. It sat worthless for well over a year formerly we bought it (but was full of furniture and junk) and be owned by an older couple beforehand that. The house just smells stale. I hold cleaned the walls, curtains, and vaccuumed the carpets but it still smells stale. I thought nearly steam cleaning the carpets but I've hear that unless they are dirty, that isn't a good notion. Is there anything I can spray on the carpet that might make the place smell better? Or should I a moment ago steam clean the complete house and see if that helps?

Answers:    You could try some Arm and Hammer hearth rug and rug deodorizer first. Just sprinkle it on the carpet and vacuum it up. It works pretty ably for us and we have 6 cats and 2 dogs.
Try steam cleaning adjectives the carpets. If that doesn't work I would replace the carpet and padding. I hold had equal problem.
take a look up surrounded by your attic space, check out whats been used for insaulation, could be mold up within!!!
open window & attic access & let it nouns for several days
Most likely from carpet. It depends on the condition, you may want to replace the carpets to acquire rid of it...a big $$$ there. Steam cleaning might serve, or, you can just spead baking soda, consent to it stay for several hours and vaccum afterward, repeat the process several times.
I agree with cleaning the hearth rug. There was more than credible dust in it when you moved contained by. After a while, dust smells. Another thing to check - your furnace filter. You may want to convert it .
I don't know if you have a pasture, but years ago I bought an old sports car that was thoroughly musky inside. A friend told me to put a box of fresh grass clippings in it, and that the chlorophyll surrounded by the grass would absorb the lay down .... what can I say " it work great " but logically you have house to concordat with.
If the house be vacant for over a year, the carpet are probably filthy with dust and mites. I expect it would be a very well brought-up idea to steam verbs the carpet. If you've cleaned everything and nil seems to relief, then you may hold to think around getting the carpet replaced and repainting the walls. That's thoroughly extreme though. I would try steam cleaning anything and everything you can first.
