contrary to what you might think, bleach can actually cause either a yellowish or grayish discoloration to whites. Use a product called Mrs. Stewart's Liquid Bluing in the wash per the directions on the bottle. It brings them back to a nice bright white.

Iron OUt is good (it stinks but it does work) be careful not to breath fumes.. You can get it at any hardware store, (lowes) soak cloths in it over night. (whites only).
I use Oxiclean alot. I soak all my whites over night in it. Its great.
What the others said about Clorine bleach is correct. I never use it. It will yellow and break down fibers fast.
The sun is great for bleaching...Hang in sun then rewash. This is the way they did many years ago for whites

Use the deterjent,like Tide etc..to cleanor wash it...it will be white.
