Is it safe to wash a goosedown comfortor in the washing machine?

I have a nice goosedown blanket. Is it safe to wash it in my machine or will it mess up all the feathers? I already took it's cover off.

Answers:
Yes it is safe, I have washed many when I worked at the cleaners. But I never put them in the dryer, I would air dry them, sometimes this takes a few days, but its worth it.
I have seen them dried also and do very well, I just never did it...If you dont get it dried very well it will smell....

Your best bet is the cleaners.. You do not want to risk it.. Have you rread the TAG on Care? or did you remove it? Better Safe than sorry..

yes it is but put it on the gentle or perm press cycle and air dry
Yes but when you dry it, throw a pair of sneakers in with it so it get fluffy again.
technically your not suposed to, but i always wash mine and never have any problems......
My mom washed hers and it ruined it a few years ago. The feathers were all coming out, and it leaves feathers all over everything.

Then she bought a new one a while back and has had it dried cleaned, it is still like new.
I wouldnt do it if i were you.
you can take it to a laundry place and use the big load washer .. on gentle cycle..
but make sure you dry it well in the large dryer or the feathers will start to stick togther and it wont look right ..
you can also get it dry cleaned but that costs alot..
when you are done drying it .. when you take it out it should come out fluffy ...
if you take it out and and its heavy and lumpy its not dry enough and the feathers are still wet and stuck togther..
good luck
It will be worth it to take it to the dry cleaners.
I would, definitely, not risk it. My goosedown pillows said that to machine wash, the feathers had to be removed before washing and the pillows had to be re-stuffed after washing. Needless to say, I just threw them away. It wasn't worth that much trouble to me. I bought new hypo-allerginic fibre fill. These can be washed and put in the dryer. Keeps them fresh and clean with no problems.
