How do I clean minerals out of an iron?

I put regular tap water in my iron and now there's crusty minerals coming out of the holes. I'm using distilled water now, but I'm wondering is there any way to put anything in the water to get rid of the minerals??

try using distilled vinegar, just like you would to clean your shower head. however dont use the vinegar in a plugged in or iron thats on. just soak it then use a soft steel wool on the outside to remove any left over scaling. another solution is descaling solution used for humidifiers. always use on a cold and unplugged appliance.

I have heard of vingar and water. About two table spoons of vingar and then fill your iron with water and have it on steam

the best way to get rid of the whitening minerals out of kettle or even your tea kettles .. is to pour 2 parts vinegar.. and pour water till you fill the iron turn it on like normal .. on high let it boil .. get an old towel .. and iron it so the steam comes out of the holes.. that will get rid of the white minerals and clean the hard water stains right out..
for a kettle pour 1 cup of vinegar in and fill it up with water let it boil for about 5 minutes .. then pour it out and rinse .. comes out like new ..
