My wash domestic device leaves red spots on my clothing. What can I do to prevent this?

The spots look like rust and follow matching dot pattern as the tub of my washer. They simply appear on laundry if the articles I've washed remain within the washer for an extended period of time. How can I prevent this and how can I remove the existing spots?
