How do you remove hairspray residue from counters and other household surfaces?

Because I use a fair bit of hairspray (I single-handedly caused global warming) and my bathroom counter could stand to be cleaned. However, the cleaners I've tried haven't worked.

Answers:
Goo Gone is the best.

Orange Clean, I use it all the time for that purpose
Try spraying with white vinegar to break it down and clean in usual way
Have you tried the Mr Clean Magic Eraser? It cleans EVERYTHING! I luv it! ;)
white vinegar should work. if not then rubbing alcohol will for sure.

p.s. please don't smoke in your bathroom. you could also be responsible for the biggest hole in the ozone yet!
Soak a clean towel in warm water and place it on the residue, let it sit for about 5 minutes then repeat.
have you tried a bathtube/shower cleaner? I use scrub free, it comes out in a foam and I let it sit b4 wiping, but you may just have to clean it several times to get it all of....try letting the cleaner sit for a little while...good luck, aslo, I clean on the weekends, but 2 days a week while I am blow drying my hair I get a clorox wipe and go over the surfaces I can reach...it seems to help.
try using a vinegar and water mixture
I've always used hot soapy water, and it works great. I usually use liquid dish soap.
Methylated Spirits mixed with warm water 50:1 ratio
You need an alcahola base cleaner that wont eat the surface off any thing.
metholated spirits is cheap,(mild)
eucoliptus oil,(prety strong)
ace tone,(very strong)
but what ever you use do a test spot on a bit that wont be scene and wait, you dont want to wreck the surface.
finger nail polish remover is what my daughter uses it works
Fantastic, Formula 409 or a vinegar/water mix works pretty good on that. You'll have to spray it down and let it sit for a bit and scrub it with a wet rag, then repeat. Usually I'll clean the sink and counter with the bathroom cleaner and wash/rinse as usual. Then while the area is still wet I'll spray it down with Fantastic or whatever and let it soak for a minute and wipe it down.
The very best hair spray removal is rubbing alcohol. Cuts right through the toughest hair spray build up.
