Boy, I never heard of a book smelling of smoke, but I do know it get on just in the region of everything and that is fruitless if your bothered by the smell. For a book I'd try sprinkling the pages beside some baking soda. Let it sit a while and then brush stale. Be sure the book doesn't get slimy
