what is the best way to clean built up grease and food off the bottom of a frying pan?

Answers:
It really depends on what type of frying pan? Do Not use abrasive pads etc. on non stick! You can soak it in hot water with dish-washing soap and if it is NOT non stick soak it in very hot water and dishwasher soap (which is stronger but, do not use it on your non stick pans). You are not supposed to soak cast iron skillets as it will take the "seasoning" off.

I've used a concentrated detergent (like Simply Orange) and a plastic putty knife once...
There is a power dissolver in a blue spray bottle, you can find it at the grocery store. I can't remember who makes it, but it is the best stuff I have found on the market! It works almost instantly!

Ahh...it's made by Dawn...Dawn Power Dissolver
Heat the frying pan until the grease is melted, then pour this down the sink.
For the remaining grease - pour a generous amount of soap (washing up liquid is prefrable) then fill the frying pan with boiling water, after about 5 minutes agrivate the base of the frying pan with a brush (or alike) pour this down the sink whilst washing the fryingn pan with the brush under running water.
Try oven cleaner. The easy way is to spray it on and leave it overnight. Clean it the next day. For faster results...This one makes you cough..put the pan on the stove and let it get hot. Let the water run in the sink. Take the pan and spray the oven cleaner all over it. Then put it under the running water. Do this a couple of times and it should get rid of all grime. Remember that you have to cover your face while doing it the fast way. If you try it you will see what I'm talking about. The fumes rises and itches your troth. lol
Are you talking about the interior or the outside bottom?
Add detail.
The type of frying pan matters too. Cast Iron is handled differently. I wouldn't expect a buildup inside any other type, though.
I have Revereware stainless with copper bottom, and use any scrubbing pad on the outside. It takes some work if there is burnt-on grease. On the inside, of course, a soak in hot water disolves everything.
It all depends on what type of frying pan you have.
If you have stainless steel you can soak the bottom in hot water with 3 tbls of cream of tarter.Leave to soak for 10 mins. However if you have a cast iron pan using any sort of product you will need to season again.
