my tiny town in massachusetts has a couple of housecleaners who get 18. and hour. In Amherst MA the going rate is around 25 an hour, but my sister in law in amherst gets 35 an hour. she is fabulous tho, and her clients pay for trust as well as a clean house, she cleans for a superior court judge, and several wealthy clients. 15 is quite low these days I believe, with 20-25 an hour being more normal in western MA anyway.

i'm in a d.c. suburb. i have 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms. i pay $50 every 2 weeks. it's about the norm. some larger houses are $75 or $100 a shot.

In CA we pay $8-10 an hour depending on whether the housekeeper can speak and read English. Usually, laundry, windows, pictures on the walls, changing linens, etc. are extra.
The best way is to find some one that already has a housekeeper and see if they would do your house. Sometimes they even know some one that would be interested. You may also come across some people that are with a company that might want to make a few bucks "under the table" without their company. The only problem with this is they might not be bonded so find some one that has already been using them and ask questions! We pay $65.00 for five hours of cleaning a four bedroom 2 and a half bath house once every two weeks.
