That's exactly what you do if they are white, if they are dark hot water will fade them. YOu'll have towash them in cold and them put them in the dryer. make sure toset the dryer for COTTONS not perm press or wrinkle free/ these settings do not get hot enough.

It depends on what they are made off. If they are cotton or wool, your idea may work. If they are synthetic, they may not shrink at all.
