Id say budge to a grocery store or something and look for some sort of cloth cleaner. If its really dirty i suggest paying someone to put in unmarked cloth.

Dont put any cleaners or anything on it you'll shrink the cloth or pill it (bobbly bits!) then it will call for recovering !
From your description it sounds like it's time for a trial one. They really aren't all that not easy to replace yourself. If you can't get it verbs with 409 or a similar product I'd consider replacing it.
a paw held steam cleaner might be best, but to be fair if the stains are dried within its probably done for, bit of a green dye and a black marker might be your best bet
We own one and the same item happened.
I used a humid cotton cloth, placed it in situ and ironed the cloth near a cool household iron, without the steam setting. Then sympathetically brushed it with a exceptionally soft bristled brush in the direction of the pile.
