vacuum cleaner odor?

How can I get rid of a musty, foul smell coming from my vacuum cleaner? It is a Dyson upright. It smells stronger when I am using the hose, but either way the odor is there. Tried vacuuming up baking soda and odor reducing carpet foam--only worked temporarily..

I have an upright orek and it's not fancy but it's functional but it still has issues when it gets dog hair caught in it.

Take it apart (check the manual as needed) and check for hair, thread and anything else that could get caught in a gear.

To get rid of the odor, baking soda can help but it can bypass the problem too. Plus it can get messy.

Try this stuff called Approach. You can find it online at www.approachit.net

If you spray the air, it should remove the odor there, and you can spray it in the hose, and inside the various parts to help remove the odor there. It has no harsh chemicals and it's water-based so it won't damage anything.

Hope that works. I know how annoying a stinky vacuum can be!

Good luck!

I have a Dyson, it comes apart at a bunch of different places. Take it apart and see if there is something stuck in it.

There should be an intake filter or a HEPA filter on board check it ,or check the area where the dirt collects and clean it with a mild solution of warm water and bleach. The oder has to be in the filtration system.
After cleaning and stripping all the hair and things out of the bristols put a dryer sheet in the compartment where the trash builds up. When you vacuum it will smell like fresh linens.
Moth balls work well . Personally i would rather smell old doggy odor than moth balls, but my friend says it neutralizes the odor, so there is no smell at all. People swear by it.

Better yet, put some regular vanilla extract from your kitchen on a scrap of paper towel, let it dry and then throw it in the vacuum bag. Then your house smells like you've been baking cookies all day!

There are also little beads you can buy in different smells that go in the vacuum bag. You can find them in the air freshner section of our grocery store.
I have a Dyson upright too and it smells terrible! Smells like corn chips and something bad. Have you tried any of these that have worked effectively?
Put a fabric softener sheet in the cartridge
As an aromatherapist, I use a cheap and eco-friendly way to keep vacuum fresh & give a nice smell to the home. Put 6 drops of 'pure essential oil' (unblended) onto the out-flow filter and it will de-odourize all. Lavender is my favourite but lemon and geranium are nice too. The pure oils are expensive but last about 6 months.
Try disconnecting the hose and wash it out with soapy water really good. Make sure it dries completely before you reattach it and use. I did the baking soda thing and it worked.
