bleach is best, small amounts on a regular basis.you also need to use a toilet brush.
What works for me is giving the toilet a bleaching. When I know that no one will be in the house for a long period of time (for example, going away on vacation, or overnight when people are sleeping), I dump some bleach in the toilet and let it sit there. I have done this for as long as I have been on my own, and NEVER had to deal with the yellow ring. I have taught a few people this trick. It works like a charm! No scrubbing necessary.

Believe it or not , Alka Seltzer works the best!!
Spray a generous amount of Simple Green soap and limescale remover in the toilet and let it sit overnight. Should remove any yellowing.
Denture cleaner tablets work great on toilets. Drop some in and let sit. Just like they clean dentures...they clean toilets too and remove stains.
