I need help on a carpet stain.?

My babysitter cleaned up a spilled potted plant without vaccuuming it, I have a very large very black stain on my light carpet. Any ideas on how to remove it without making it worse?

Answers:
I have a product called "GOO GONE" and have used it on carpet stains

Other answers:
try tonic water or selzer water, let it sit for about a minute and then wipe it up with a paper towel. I'm not sure it will work if the stain has been there for long, but it usually works great for new stains...you should try it anyway...good luck :) or you could get some carpet cleaner, that works too.

Get an area rug!
one thing i used for kicks on my stain is aloe-vera spray . spray it there once a day for a week. then wipe it up after 10 min each time.
WD 40 and windex
Windex, Oxy Clean, Woolite Pet Stain Remover

All three work reasonably well. Careful with using alot of windex, as it could turn carpet blue. In a pinch, though, it is good at lifting stains. Another warning on windex, it contains ammonia, which attracts cats to that place.
Rent an "extraction" type cleaner from a local hardware or home store. This type of cleaner sprays heated cleaning solution into the carpet and sucks it back out, along with the loosened soil. Any other type of carpet cleaner will grind a lot of the dirt deeper into the carpet.
My son dumped a plant, tried to clean it up before I saw it by vacuuming it. Ended up just grounding it into the carpet. I used a carpet scrubber on it and cleaned it by hand using the soap for the scrubber. I just kept going over and over the spot until it disappeared. Took awhile but it worked. I had to use Spot Not (orange can with a blue cap) on an area but you can't tell it even happened now.
I used Tide diluted about 1 part tide 3 parts water
Try a cleaner and if that dont take it all up then try ammoa, mix it half and half with water, Spray it on the spot and get a white towel and palce it over the spot then take your iron and place it on the towel leave for a few mins then check it. It might work and then it might not
If the stain is potting soil (acid-based stain) you would use an alkaline based detergent and a lot of patience. however, if you do not remove all of the detergent (rinsing), the area may resoil. Apply detergent, allow 5 minutes dwell time, and extract or blot (do not scrub). Rinse with warm water and blot, blot, blot, the rinse, rinse, rinse (this is where you insert patience). As long as the spill is tansferring to your blotting cloth, the spill is coming out. go here for a step-by-step.
