I want a Dyson, but I have a Hoover Windtunnel.
Hoover although i like rhoomba. Still waiting for th rhoomba technology to mature.
Electrolux...best vacuum i have ever seen or had
Rainbow. It cleans the air as you vacuum and never loses suction.
I have this yellow 16 amp Eureka/The Boss/SuperLite/Bagless/Upright...

Price I paid about $30.00
I have both a Bissel vacuum cleaner and a Bissel continuous heat deep carpet cleaner. Love them.
I have Kirby, I have no idea what model number it is, the damn thing is about 20 years old but still running like new.
We have a Sharp Twin Energy 12 amp at work and it has amazing suction. In fact I have had to put electrical tape on the cord in a couple of spots. It's suction pulled its own cord in and tore it a little. It's about 5 or 6 years old but it still works great!
Dirt Devil
I use a Riccar...Expensive but worth every $$$$$
KIrby-decent but no cigar--gotta get me 1 of those dysons!
I use Dirt Devil They work really good.. I really want a dyson though!
I have a Kirby....they work really well, but they are too heavy...great for a one floor home, but not suitable for a multi-level home....I'm thinking of buying a Dyson.
I have a vac that I bought from a local vacuume shop that was built to their specs. It cannot be bought in any store or even on the internet (at least the last time I checked). Delta is what it it called. It's has a very heavy duty motor which is considered to be commercial duty. Has 3 stages of filter plus the bags I buy for it are hospital grade hepa. What goes in that vac does not come out of it that is for sure. So I am not spreading more dust while I am trying to clean it up. It's a bit on the bulky side and awkward to get around with but I have found that with vacuumes there's always some sort of sacrafice to be made. You have to decide on what is important to you with the features and just pick what best suits you. This machine I can have serviced and it should last me most of my life. All parts can be repaired/replaced on it as needed. Because it cleans so well and keeps the dust contained rather than spewing it right back out I choose it over lighter weight cheaper vacs that are easier to work with.

IMHO you should look at a vac store before buying out of any general merchandise store.
Panasonic - love it.
Had Hoovers and they always broke.
Oreck was nothing special.

If I had to buy today I'd look into a Miele or other high-end, high-performance vac.
eureka but it's on the Bink..so i need a new one ...
