what is the best way to clean hardwood floors?
Answers:
I use one cup of white vinegar to a half bucket of water, then it is the good old get down on your hands and knees, I use a sponge that is well wrung out and wipe the floors, a mop will leave too much water residue on the floor....then I apply mop and glow for hardwood floors, keeps them looking like new.
Other answers:
use something like a swiffer or a clorox ready mop

white viniger is best. i have wood throughout my house and i have tried everything.
There is some stuff that Bruce makes (available at Home Depot) that has the hardwood floor cleaner and the mop thing. If you don't want to use that, just a damp mop will work, but it won't give you the shine that the Bruce floor cleaner will.
Murphy's Oil soap makes a cleaner specifically for hardwoods. It smells great and does not leave a film on your floor.
The people that installed my hardwood told me not to use anything on it but 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. I just do not feel that it gets the floor very clean. And I hate the smell.
I have used Murphy's Oil Soap, not necessarly the one for wood floors, even though they make one. I find it works wonderful. It is not harsh like a chemical, I can clean my tile with it and it smells wonderfully clean. I just love it. Now I won't use anything else. It is safe for any hardwood, I believe. I have had no trouble using it at all.
Best wishes to you.
I sell hardwood floors. You need to determin weather or not your floors have a urethane finish or a waxable finish. If it is a urethane floor vinegar and water will work, for floors that are warn badly, they can be screened and recoated. For a waxable floor they can be buffed, and waxed, that will help the floor alot.
Vinegar!! Murphy's Oil soap leaves a residue, Vinegar cleans!
I mix laundry detergent and fabric softener with hot water...works on my wood floor!
on your hands and knees, apply elbow grease liberally
