why are new sponges in the package wet when you buy them?

Answers:
Sponges are packaged wet. Because they are packages wet to keep them from drying they also put in an antibacterial agent to keep the water in them from souring so to say. The antibacterial isn't listed on the package because it isn't considered a "toxic" substance by the FDA and therefore doesn't have to be included on the product label.

did you ever see what a sponge looks like after it dries out - they probably wouldn't sell very well all dried out.
