One thing I like to do is put some cinnamon, cloves, all spice and water in a pot and let it simmer on low for awhile and the house smells of spices....kinda like spice cake baking all the time...
Try getting an air filter/purifier. When you use coffee beans, or any other type of "good" smelling thing, you might end up mixing that with the smell of what's inside.
An air filter is not large, but it will make the whole house smell fresh without the fragrance of coffee or cedar.
I also use carpet powder that you pour into your carpet and then vacuum it up. It smells great.
The best bet would be to get an air filter, and then once the house smells fresh, add your own spice to it. It cleans the air in your household, making it safer for you.
Just keep it on high for the first few days you have it, and then once your house smells better, keep it on low to maintain the freshness.
Febreeze works really well because it eliminates odor and leaves behind a fresh clean sent. Also baking soda eliminates odor anywhere. The fridge, carpets anywhere. You could also put fabric sheets in places like garbage cans, shelves etc.
Natural cedar is very fresh smelling.
I use natural beeswax candles once in a while.
Artificial scents usually don't set well with me, so I avoid them as much as possible.
Some of the aromatherapy burners for essential oils look interestinng, but I haven't purchased one yet.
i keep it clean and burn scented candles or scented oil. I also boil a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water to clear out oders like burnt toast, etc. i also keep the air in my home circulating by using fans
For killing odors, Febreze is great. For great odors nothing beats baking apples in my book.
air freshener
I put dryer sheets infront of my a/c filters its like an air freshner that only stops when the ac does. My husband and I are both smokers and this works realy well.
We use arm and hammer pet fresh carpet powder... let it sit for at least an hour and vacume. It picks up any hair and leaves the room smelling much more fresh for days. and febreeze the furniture the cushions.
Easy.
Open your windows and keep them that way.
Don't deal with the aerosoles and 'fake' clean air nor herbs or those plug ins. Nothing can replace the real thing. Fresh clean air!
fresh air whenever possible and Febreeze
The Spring and Fall are great times to air out your home. Open all the doors and windows and just let the air filter through your home. I also recommend using a simmer pot to give your home a lovely scent. If you do not have a simmer pot, put a large pot of water on the stove and add some potpourri to the pot, and set the stove on low. You'll notice a lovely aroma wafting through.
Get rid of your carpet. Air the house out thoroughly every day. Place baking soda boxes in trouble areas to absorb odors. Borax is really good for deodorizing.
If you put vinegar in a bowl it takes out musty smells and smoke in the air. If you leave it to long it will evaporate and leave crusty stuff in the bowl.
I don't personally like Febreeze. It doesn't last long. You have to keep spraying. I have found the double plug-ins great. It rotates back and forth, and lasts. I also burn my own candles, which are double wicked and they have so many to choose from. I love a good candle. Yet, nothing beats fresh air.
1) Don't smoke in the house.
2) Open windows and use plenty of fresh air and FEBREEZE!
3) Scented candles
4) Plants!!
I use glade plug in oil around the house I like lavender... In the kitchen I use yankee candle something that smells like your baking , use a warmer it melts the candle my house always smells wonderful.
I sometimes use a dryer sheet(Bounce or Downy) and put them on fans or a/c ducts to make the house smell fresh. In the winter time I use an old tin can like from vegetables and put some Pine-Sol mopping solution and water in it and put it on the egister ducts where the heat comes out of.
I like to use a pot of water on the stove with a little vanilla extract in it and just let it simmer. Also I will cut an apple in half sprinkle a little cinnamon on it and put in the oven on warm. With kids in the house I don't like to use the chemicals and candles are just an accident waiting to happen.
this sounds funny but if you take vanilla extract and put it on a cotten ball and place it in you heat vent when it kicks on you will smell it.you can also do this with your fav perfume.they also sell these rings that have sent on them for your lights it is great and they are safe too.you can also do one of the things i do and place bounce dryer sheets in places like under couch cushions and in dressers and trashcans.the cotten ball thing can be used in the car and the fridge too.i burn a lot of candles so it always smells like one of them i burn.good luck and have fun
Put lemon slices into a pot of water and bring to a boil; simmer. After an hour, the citrus aroma will refresh your home.
Use the fragrance sample pages that you get from magazines or dept store advertisments. Just open them up and hang or put in a hidden area in the room and the aroma of the perfume lingers in the air.
When it starts getting old, sprinkle with water and the smell will reactivate, but by now you should have received more magazine samples to start up new ones.
