Garbage can removal?

I have a few garbage cans that are used for weekly garbage pick-up. How do I actually throw these cans away? I will be buying new ones.

Answers:
Just paint on the sides of them with spray paint or something else in big letters: "Take this can", "Please Take", or something like that. If it doesn't work (whether they didn't see it or didn't understand) leave them out the next week empty -- that should draw attention to them. Failing this, find a day you can stand out with the cans to tell the collectors directly.

Other answers:
Leave a note on front of the cans saying Please throw away. I did that not to long ago. and they did, they threw them away.

I put a big note on them OR paint on them "TAKE CAN", and it worked.
Write clearly on the cans themselves with black marker or tape a note to the cans letting the garbage men know that the cans should go as well as the contents.
