Does anyone know if you can dye a light pink sweatshirt a darker color that has a stain?
I don't know where the stain came from.
Answers:
The stain might resist the dye, and then the stain would still stand out. You need to really work on scrubbing out the stain by hand. Try Oxyclean, or a strong dishwashing liquid. Depends really on what the stain is from. Oxyclean is wonderful stuff and will clean practically anything. If the stain is from something oily, then the dishwashing liquid like Dawn can help. Whichever you use, rub it into the stain, and let it sit for a little while, then rinse it out and see how it looks.

You'd have to strip the colour, first, I think. Otherwise, you'll have a darker sweatshirt, with a darker or lighter stain. One thing I've always found That works for me is bleach for unbleachables... i.e. colour safe bleach. Put it directly on the stain and let it sit. Wash it a couple of times with this stuff as well in hot water... should remove enough of the stain that you either won't notice it, or it can be dyed over successfully. This has worked for me.

it really depends on what the stain is. If it is oil then it will most likely not dye very well. But any stain may resist dyes. Try removing the stain with shout prewash treatment, oxy clean, and /or "grandma's secret spot remover" available here
