Do tealight candles float?

I just need some really cheap candles that float, and was curious if anyone has tried tealights? Also, how long do I have till they burn out? I'm planning a proposal on a lake and I'd like to light apx 1000 candles. Thanks in advance!!

Sorry to be a party pooper...but...

Tealights don't float. Also, you have to deal with the little aluminum cups. Lighting 1000 candles will take a bit of time...and if you are thinking of putting them on a lake...they can start floating away in a very short period of time. Also, any waves can wash over them and put them out.

Floating candles can be expensive...i bought some last year and i think they were about $15 for 20 candles...that would put you project at about $750.

What about scattering white daisies on the lake .... they are a bit more ecolgically friendly, relatively cheap and would take significantly less time to launch.

Some tea candles do float usually they're the ones that look like flowers, but the ones in the little metal canisters usually don't. The ones I used lasted for half an hour to 45 minutes. You'll need help lighting that many candles, but the proposal ideas sounds cool, good luck!

The tealights will float, if they don't have the metal or plastic cup but I don't think they would be steady enough on a large surface of water like a lake. (if the tealight has the metal cup, you can sometimes pull that part off and still have an intact candle)

I think it would be pretty to float a few of the larger candles that are meant to float- like the flower shaped ones, then float some flowers (like that other person said) Or even rose petals. Then add luminaries all around the area where you want to stand when you propose. (luminaries are the paper bag with a votive candle inside- you have to weight them down with sand. You can make you own out of a paper lunch sack for a more rustic look, or you can buy them- the store bought ones are more sturdy, and sometimes come foiled lined and some evern have cutouts or something fancy about them) If there are trees near the lake you could hang some candle lit laterns from the trees too. It would be so pretty!

Good luck- it sounds beautiful.

Edited to say:
You could make a pathway with the paper bag luminaries down to the lake/propsal site too- that would be pretty :)
